The Economics of Patent

Lately, I find it a bit hard to part with funds. I have, in the past, put out over $1000 for a bag or two, but, to be honest, I have found that my comfort level is around $750. So, while going a-hunting over the web, I noticed that many designers, big and not-so-big, have affordable handbags offered and coincidentally, they are all P-A-T-E-N-T. Why is that? Is it the manufacturing process that makes the skins more cost-efficient in producing? Ironically, even though relatively more affordable than their naked cousins, the patent lends a more formal air, which is that rarefied quality that we bag-lovers find pleasing, n’est-ce pas?
