Surprisingly, as I perused Kate Spade a few days ago, I was taken, not by the patrician-esque totes known to be the pièce de résistance nor was I sidetracked by the Eamesian graphic textiles, but by this minute specimen. At first glance, the treatment of the leather sung atypical to usual Spade fare. It has a certain rigid characteristic to the material, coupled with the fact that it looks unglazed. The curvilinear treatment of frontal pieces run antithetical to what I have seen heretofore. So, it seems, that I have been overwhelmed by this little clutch because it is just so different from the rest. And, part of me is happy to see that there is going to be some new creativity flowing in the veins of the new Kate Spade (sans the namesake). I will wait to see how things go, but this is a good start. This is the Katy Katherine Paola Clutch in Amet/Gold, cut from custom-dyed, vegetable-tanned calf leather, giving it the firmer, hardier characteristic. The leather has been heat pressed for added water resistance. It closes with a front flap and it has a banded strap running the length on the verso. It’s oversized at 13″ x 7.9″. Available @ Kate Spade for $275. It’s a pretty indication that conveys that Spring will soon be here.
