I love Kate Spade, and the thing that I love most is her point of view. It’s a little topsy-turvy administered with flair. Eveningwear is not relegated to the sun setting. Daywear does not clock out after 5pm. If one thinks that one must always partner a clutch with a night-time ensemble, one can imagine Ms. Spade mouthing, “Pshaw.” In the happy-go-lucky world of “KS”, brights dominate neutrals, tights are worn with charmeuse, day bags glitter brighter than evening bags, and cereal can be eaten at the dinner table. On a more serious note, the idea of carrying a bag cut in larger portions and made with partying in mind is no-nonsense logical. Who can really fit anything in a clutch? I use a clutch as a wallet, and I feel naked without a sizable, hefty purse on my side to house my pda, notebook, a scarf for chilly nights, a makeup bag, a few pens, some post-its, a comb, flashlight, bandages, aspirin, sewing kit and several layers of napkins from a coffee shop. It’s good design and ingenuity that I still look presentable for dinner, and it’s all because of Ms. Spade. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
