I do like some of Gwen Stefani’s new Fall line, and especially this L.A.M.B. Lucca Medium Bowler in Black. I generally gravitate to the bowling ball bag shape (it’s got that ladyish appearance). In fact in the summer, I went to a Nordstrom and tried it on. It felt good. The leather looked fine-grained. It felt smooth to the touch, soft like goatskin. The rolled handles invited being held in hand or the crook of the arm. The clasp is genuinely different in its ying-yang configuration and I felt confident that it would take more than a push to release it. The velvet trim will look antiquated when worn down to the nub like an old hacking jacket. I held back from buying it because at $675, I thought it much for a new line. In addition, I wanted another bag in that silhouette, the YSL Muse. Well, I have an oversized Muse now, which I dearly love, caress and generously coat with saddle conditioner (”Happy Holidays, Self!” “Oh, thank you so much, how did you know?!”), and I will now add the newly discounted Lucca Bowler to my collection as a smaller daily bop-around shopper with the perfect dimensions of 14 x 12 x 5.5″d and a 5.5″ strap drop. Just like Gwen, I hope to look frikkin’ awesome even in my most casual wear, such as knitted sweats and my old pair of Converse low-tops. Kinda hope it will stylize me into a cougar in the making (just in the ‘looks’ department). It’s $475 at eLuxury and free shipping until November 5th. I’m on it already, grrrrr.
