It’s only October, but I’m mentally preparing for the year-end festivities. I need to figure out what to bake and put together the holiday gift list. With the inevitable arrival of the holidays, so ushers in the terse stress level. It is also now that I escape into my little cobwebbed memory banks and recall old television programs that remind me that the holidays are really fun. Really. There’s the classic Charlie Brown Christmas, the old Scrooge cartoon, but the one that made the most lasting impression was the 1977 televised program, “The Nutcracker”, with Mikhail Baryshnikov and the inspirational Gelsey Kirkland. Light as a feather with the strength and precision of cut steel, Gelsey Kirkland, danced into my imagination and made me yearn to live in that world of sugar plums and ethereal expressiveness. Here’s my homage to Ms. Kirkland. All found on shopbop. After the post, there is an excerpt of her dancing en pointe as Clara (courtesy of http://www.youtube.com/user/briciolakatia).
