Only the inimitable Lulu Guinness can revive a retro throwback into fashion again, minus the annoyances that characterize most thrift shop finds. Short of mint, the usual vintage condition presents some unattractive features. I’m talking about faux leather, plastic lining that’s cracking at the seams and inner corners, and a tiny interior space that fits at most a cell, house keys, lip gloss and a few credit cards which had to be taken out of the wallet and bundled together with a hair band.
Initially, I felt impartial to this Pom Pom Handbag. Then, when I saw it on the model in the latest Anthropologie catalog, I lit up. It is simply, for lack of a better description, adorable. With a whimsical accessory like this, I think a simple shift or A-line would pose as a nice counterpoint. Moleskin material with measurements, 12 x 9 x 5.5″d for $328.
