To my surprise, I seem to be attracted to bags with braided handles. They have in some way wiggled into my heart the same way hand-craft items at the local fair have found a home in my garden. Oddly refreshing, they add some homey charm that contrasts nicely with city life. Designer Bryna Nicole amply employs this motif in her confident collection of hip arm candy. Designing handbags was a happy accident, when she found out, that as a stylist in San Francisco, it was indeed rare to locate the perfect handbag for her way of dressing. Using skins ranging from standard bovine to goat, deer and crocodile from Italy and South America, her bags are easily recognizable by their densely pigmented tones, lightly grommetted or studded forms, and big shapes. She frequently sticks with a few standard silhouettes but makes numerous options by applying different skins. We’re glad she made that move towards design, because her handbags are easy on the eyes, easy to sport around, and easy to look easy-going.
