Do you have an indestructible, timeless tote in your repertoire? My first bag that I ever picked out for myself was an utilitarian, nondescript, nylon tote from the GAP. It carried me through the last year of undergrad, the first few years of working, and then, when I decided to go back to school, all through grad school. Of course, I didn’t use it everyday but still, after about 11 years of use, that bag still looks like the day I purchased it. Even now, I’ve pulled it out to help with the heavy toting for road trips.
The Noel Henry on the left is marketed as a baby bag, while the Noel Stevie on the right is filed under the handbag. They are interchangeable. They are sturdy enough to withstand years of grueling weight from bottles, rattles, diapers, meds and extra clothes. They are roomy enough to fit a tome, a thin sweater or scarf, water bottle and your laptop for commuting to work and school. They can become the go-to weekender for a seashore excursion or a visit to the parents/in-laws. But, unlike my trusty nylon tote, these have ecumenical poise. The print is already a classic. Broad strokes of color smite monotony. Bookending them are leather cords, which keep the feel light.
