Could a handbag be a muse to inspire? Why the heck not? When I look at this organically inspired purse by Erva, I see Spain. I see myself trodding with the feel of unevenly paved cobblestones under my feet, a brisk walk exerting out of my bones, and Gaudi’s fascinating Sagrada Familia in Barcelona before my eyes. A biomorphic wonder, it lures me to look–to survey the atmospheric spires and laced alcoves and wonder how one human could conjure a concrete entity that can simultaneously symbolize rational aestheticism and unmitigated imitation of nature. That’s a lot to see from one little bag! But, this bag has much to tell. It has a preciousness about it that is as lovingly thought out as Gaudi’s love for his trees and hills. It looks so crafted by someone who took the time to furrow with forefinger and thumb each pleat. That same person also took time to transform some salvaged wood that was just sitting around in his or her work space, and modeled and sanded to imperfect perfection the darling wooden spheres that would be used to clasp tight the supple leather bag. Just to mix up things a bit and with a sense of wit, a metal chain is incorporated for fear of abandoning reason completely. The Pleated Leather Shoulder Bag by Erva is available @ shopbop.com
. The bag, 7 x 11″x 3″d with 19″ strap drop, is, yes, made in Spain. $567.
