In the midst of the British 2nd Industrial Revolution, Smythson of Bond Street came to existence in 1887. Smythson garnered many admirers of its highest-end leather goods, diaries and personalized stationary, most notably of the time, Queen Victoria. Its status has wavered little since inception, and their products are just as refined and appeals to the ‘upper-crust’ as well as the fashion-forward crowd of modernity. Take, for example, the most recent addition to the handbag collection, the Nancy. While the muse may have been vintage traveling ware, the design successfully graduates to meet today’s taste. In a quiet, understated manner, these handbags still demand attention. The hand pinched pleats show off the pliability of the calf leather and create an undulating terrain to let the eye wander, remain, rest. The clasp looks a bit tricky to manuever but it sure is cool looking (if anyone knows how this works, please enlighten me). When unhinged, saturated violet silk blooms forth. The Nancy Collection consists of three sizes and available in the most upscale of non-colors, black, brown and taupe.
