After staring at what seemed like hundreds of structured bags, I need to take a break. While I still want that feminine slant that pervades Fall season’s purses, I want nothing to do with origami precision corners, folds and flaps at this moment that I write this. I draw forth the Marni Balloon Tote (again) and some compatriots, Anna Corinna’s Bender Tote and the Brontibay Paris Tutu. Palate cleansers. Admiring them is like taking a drink of cold, acidically sweet lemonade amid the daily routine of imbibing coffee and cola. They are oh, so round. They hang decorously on the forearm or hand. Their delight comes from their simple shapes, which also illuminates the breadth of material. It’s liberating.
